Two of the most recent individual award winners are the Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain, who won Defensive Player of the Year in 2024, and now, Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche winning his second James Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman.

DENVER (AP) — Cale Makar captured the Norris Trophy as the league’s top defenseman for a second time in four seasons.

Already a member of the NHL’s Quarter-Century Team, Makar joins Karlsson, Nicklas Lidstrom and Duncan Keith as the only blueliners to win multiple Norris Trophies since 2000.
