Smokey Robinson's attorney responded to allegations that the the singer sexually harassed and raped four housekeepers, calling them "vile."

A criminal investigation has been launched into the sexual assault allegations against legendary singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson, his attorneys and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirm to Variety.

In a statement provided to USA TODAY on May 7, Robinson's attorney Christopher Frost said he will ask the Los Angeles County Superior Court to dismiss a complaint from four women accusing the singer, 85, of sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, gender violence and creating a hostile work environment.
