New Jersey Transit train engineers have officially commenced their strike, shutting down commuter trains and leaving hundreds of thousands of commuters scrambling to find other modes of transportation.

The walkout by members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen shut down New Jersey Transit’s rail network. The strike will leave tens of thousands of commuters scrambling for other ways to reach their jobs in the New York City metropolitan region.

New Jersey Transit train engineers are on strike in a dispute over wages, leaving an estimated 350,000 commuters in New Jersey and New York City to seek other means to reach their destinations or consider staying home.
