NEW YORK – One day after being designated for assignment by the Yankees, veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu was officially released from the roster Thursday morning. That followed “a tough couple of days’’ said manager Aaron Boone of conversations with LeMahieu that included GM Brian Cashman about how the organization viewed its infield alignment.

DJ LeMahieu won three Gold Gloves with the Colorado Rockies and another with the New York Yankees. But his range has been diminished by injuries in recent years.

The New York Yankees made a major change to their infield this week. The team moved Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to second base and DJ LeMahieu to the bench.
